Pennington Seed, Inc.
Sonny Pennington is President and Chief Executive Officer for Pennington Seed, Inc. He is responsible for directing overall operations for Pennington, a subsidiary of Central Garden and Pet Company and one of the nation's largest manufacturers and distributors of lawn, garden and turf care products, bird and wild game seed, lawn and garden chemicals, and plant foods.
Pennington has served in a number of positions of Pennington Seed since 1978 , when he began working for the company his grandfather, Brooks Pennington, Sr., founded in 1945. Pennington's previous job titles include Vice President, Legal and Finance; Senior Vice President; and CEO. He was named President of the company on July 1, 1995.
In addition to his work at Pennington, Seed, Inc., Mr. Pennington is heavily involved in the Madison, Georgia community and in the national business community. He has served as chairman of the administrative board at Madison's First United Methodist Church and at the Bank of Morgan County. Pennington has also served on the board of directors at Allied Bankshares; Mid-South Seeds, Inc. of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Bio Plus, Inc., of Ashburn, Georgia and BPRD, Inc. He has also been active with the Kiwanis Club, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and Ducks Unlimited of Morgan County. He has been recognized as a statewide volunteer of the year by the Georgia Parks and Recreation Association.
Sonny Pennington holds several distinguished degrees from the University of Georgia, including a bachelor degree in Business Administration where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors. In addition, Pennington worked as a consultant in legal and business matters for Pennington Seed, while earning a joint J.D.-M.B.A. degree in business administration and law.
His hobbies and interests include hunting, fishing, skiing, travel, golf, and civic work. Sonny, his wife Patty, daughter Christian, and son, Brooks M. Pennington IV, make their home in Madison, Georgia.
