
Type: Warm season annual grass
Origin: Texas
Adaptation: Most well-drained soils with a pH of 6.0 or higher.
Uses: Grazing, hay, green chop, silage.
Benefits: Very drought tolerant, rapid emergence, fine-stemmed, sweet, succulent leaves, very palatable to livestock, rapid re-growth.
Nutrition: Crude Protein - 9 to 12%. Total Digestible Nutrients - 55 to 65%. Nutritional quality can be affected by environmental conditions and management practices.
Planting: • RATE: 20 to 25 lbs. drilled, 30 to 35 lbs./acre broadcast, 35 to 40 lbs./acre for hay. • DATE: Spring, after danger of frost. • METHOD: Lime soil to a 6.0 pH and follow soil test recommendations for nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus.
Grazing or Hay: Begin grazing or hay harvest when growth reaches about 18 to 30“. Don't graze or harvest closer than 4 to 6“. Rotationally graze for greatest forage utilization.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Avoid grazing new growth after light frost or drought to reduce the chance of prussic acid poisoning. Check the nitrate level during drought stress for nitrate toxicity. DO NOT USE FOR HORSE PASTURE. Available Product Size(s): 50 lb
